Lefkara Village “Lace making” & Organic Olive Farm & Macharias Monastery

Following breakfast, we will embark on a scenic drive through the Troodos Mountains to reach the picturesque village of Lefkara, often considered the most beautiful village in Cyprus. Renowned for its Lefkaritic lace embroidery, handmade silver jewelry, and traditional Cypriot architecture, Lefkara takes its name from the bright white silica and limestone of the surrounding mountains. During our visit, we’ll explore the charming village streets, stop for a traditional Cypriot coffee at a local café, and engage with the friendly locals, gaining a deeper insight into the island’s culture. Our journey continues with a delightful walk to the only organic olive farm in Cyprus, set amidst natural beauty and a meticulously designed garden. Here, you will learn about Cyprus olives, olive oil production, and local life. Take the opportunity to sample local wines and purchase organic products. Next, we will visit the renowned Machairas Monastery, situated on the slopes of Kionia in the Machairas Mountains. One of the three Royal and Stavropegic monasteries on the island, it houses the miraculous icon of Panagia Machairiotissa (the Virgin Mary of Machairas), attributed to Apostle Luke the Evangelist. According to tradition, the icon was smuggled into Cyprus during the iconoclasm period (8th–9th century AD) and hidden in a cave. In 1145, two hermits, Ignatios and Neophytos, discovered the icon with divine guidance, cutting through the dense undergrowth using a sacred knife, which gave the monastery its name (‘Machairiotissa’ derived from the Greek word for ‘knife’). The excursion will begin at 9:00 AM, with a return to the hotel by 5:00 PM. Enjoy dinner and an overnight stay at your hotel in Larnaca.
